Hi Ivor
I must say I am very impressed with your site. It's
brilliant. I am not an ex Mick but I am a medal collector and am interested in
the Micks. My Uncle Arthur, who sadly passed away a couple of years ago, was very
proud of
his service in the Irish Guards. He served from 1958 -1960. He was in Support Company and
did a tour of Cyprus with them. His name and number was 23456963 L/Cpl Arthur
Louis Turner. He was, I think, better known as a boxer, and before he joined
the
Guards was a north west of England ABA Champion. He became Oxford and
Bucks Champion while he was in the Guards . I have quite a few photos of him and
his pals but sadly a lot of them are not named. I enclose a nice one of, I think,
the members of Support Company while in Cyprus and photos of the boxers L/Sgt
E
Fitzpatrick, Gdsn T Lynch, and Sgt Pat O'Grady. In 1998 I wrote to the barracks
and got a nice letter back from the late George Hooton and he said he remembered
my uncle well as he was an excellent boxer . I would like to hear from anyone that
knew him and could tell me any stories.
Keep up the good
work,
Steve
