Hi, I am trying to locate some information regarding my true
grandfather who died when my mother was 14.
Grandad enlisted under the name
Thomas Joseph Cochrane on 17th March 1925. He was 18 years old. We understand
that he was then informed by his family that his true surname was Corcoran. This
was officially changed on his records on 17th October 1931. The other
information we have is that he served as a Guardsman for 7 years with the
Colours and 5 years with the Reserves, but he obviously chose to carry on and do
all 12 years with the Colours. He was in the Irish Guards Band and played the
bag pipes in 1944.
He came over from Kells in Ireland to Liverpool and
joined up there, He died in 1959 when he was just 54 years old. My mother would
desperately love some info on him. I have attached the only photo's we have of
him. I am not sure where they were taken.
His father served for 13 years in
India with the Leinster Regiment.
