1st Batn. Irish Guards  in  Palestine, Summer 1947

Palestine Daily Star

If, like me, you wondered what we, the British Army, were doing there in Palestine , I have found a very interesting and informative Web Site, well worth a visit: http://www.jerusalem-archives.org/

Email me YOUR story:

My story is based on fact, but the details were stored in my memory for many years, before I ever dreamt of telling anyone.
I do remember that the NCO  who came to rescue me was Sgt. Dunne who is sitting next to the two Bedouins in the photo, and that I am directly behind him, peeping over his shoulder, in the shade of the Arabs tent. Apparently the Arabs had kept me alive by sprinkling cold goats milk on me to reduce my body temperature until help was found in the form of Micky Dunne
and his lads.
Were you there, in the photo, and have I imagined any or all of this nightmare. We received no counselling in those days,
just salt tablets.

This was just one of the many unpleasant incidents in which I was involved in the Middle - East, but I do recall having some good times in between.

Has anyone been back to visit the graves of our mates who we left behind ?
