2nd
Battalion Irish Guards
INVITATION
TO A DANCE
As an Officer's Servant
I had the pleasure of 'looking after' Major H.C.Neilson
at No 29 Grotenbach
Strasse in Gummersbach. Not that he needed much looking after. In fact it was
the other way round really. One day, while acting Duty Officer he inspected
our bedrooms at No.29, and nicked me for having a dirty tea-mug. But
I got my own back . . .
I nicked his invitation to the Dance at the Schutzenburg.
Frauleins were invited, but I made suitable apologies for his absence.
PLEASE SCROLL DOWN
I
am joking of course, and if Major Neilson or his family see this, it was
a real pleasure to serve with him until he left the Battalion to return to the
UK. I found the above card while emptying the litter bin
from his room in Gummersbach, and took the liberty of retaining it as a souvenir.
I believe the Invitation
is signed by Drill-Sergeant J. Watton
