Re: Sgt.2725218 James Christopher (Seamus) Askew

Do you remember my Dad, Sgt. Seamus Askew. ?

I was 8 years old when we moved into Hubblerath Barracks from a house in Hubblerath after it was returned to the owner.  I thought the barracks was called Llanelly Barracks.  I remember the Coronation Day party for all the families in married quarters.
My dad left the Guards in 1956 (my mum nagged him to settle down) but he couldn't settle in civvy street so he re-enlisted in the Manchester Regiment keeping his Sgt. stripes.  In 1958 when the Manchester and Liverpool Regiments were being amalgamated in Surrey he collapsed and died of a heart attack the day before the ceremony, he was 1 month short of his 35th birthday.

I have some photographs of him playing the fool (as usual) in the Sgt's mess in Llanelly Barracks with Sgt. George Burns and Sgt. Tom Sweeney, but the group photos below will probably be of more interest to his fellow Guardsmen . . . .

             Best Wishes
