Kate Shirley from New Zealand, wrote in my Guest Book:

I came upon this site purely by chance. I was looking for information on the Irish Guards. I'm a family Historian and needed information on the Regiment.
My late father James Thornbury served in the Irish Guards from
July1934 to July1962. He married my Mum while stationed at Chelsea Barracks, Westminster,  in  July 1936.
I knew nothing of where he served or what he did during the war. All I have are childhood memories of the Guards Depot in Caterham. Your web site facinated me I am most impressed that everything I needed to know was available. Most of it was due to your hard work I also found two photos of my late father in the gallery. Thank you for all the hard work. To anyone who knew our family," Hello to you all ". There are four of us living here in New Zealand, one in Canada, and another in America.
Warm Regards Kate Shirley, Nee Thornbury"

UPDATE
Since Kate wrote this, we now know that:
James served in Middle East Land Forces from February 1947 to 10th January 1948.
Webmasters note: Which is exactly the same period as I myself served with the M.E.L.F in Palestine. We could have come home on the same ship, the "Taos Victory," from Port Said, through the worst Mediteranean storm on record, finally landing at Southampton 10th January 1948.

These are the medals James was awarded :  War Medal 1939/45, the 1939/45 Star, Italy Star, Palestine,     Defence Medal and the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal.
