Hello Ivor, I have just found your
very interesting web site and how interesting it was to see pictures
of Hamburg and Gummersbach, there weren't many cameras about then. I am ex Irish Guards, 2725673 Gdsn. Evans and was with 2 IG
at Gummersbach and Hamburg. I am still in touch with two pals from
those days.
Gdsn R Annison 2725783 and Gdsn G.H.Jones 2725679,
were at Caterham with me, together with Squad Instructors,
Sgt Doogan,.Sgt Davies and Sgt McDowell., we stayed together most
of our service time and still meet up twice a year in Stamford
for a few pints. Names like CSM Lynch, RSM Teddy Nye , Montgomery
DCM, and of course CSM Watton often come up. I have recently
found another pal, Gdsn A Searle 2725698 from Ipswich,
who wrote an article in the Times about the crew of the "Graf
Spee" German battleship coming into Hamburg in 1946. He was
in the detail seeing them off the boat, you may remember the
occassion. In 1995, I went with Bob Annison to Hamburg and visited
our barracks in Wandsbek. We were made very welcome and allowed
to look round. We even went into the barrack block (Roberts)
which was HQ company and went into the room which was the Orderly
Room, by the way we were all in the orderly room along with names
Bray, Haws, Rose, Sgt Gilmore, Cpl Johnson, ORQMS
Wilde, and others.

During our visit I took the attached photo of our last get together.
