My Dad , Arthur, who
sadly passed away recently, joined the Irish Guards
in 1957.
He
was in Sgt. H Dalton's Squad at the Guards Depot, Caterham,
and later served in Cyprus, where he was awarded a Medal
for Bravery for (we believe) saving the lives of some soldiers
after their truck overturned in a ditch.
After leaving the Micks
he boxed for the London Irish and his opponents included
such well-known fighters as 1968 Olympic middleweight
champion Chris Finnegan and Mark Rowe.
I would be
pleased to hear from anyone who knew him as we know
very little about his life in the Guards and the details
of how he won his Medal. |
