CAN YOU HELP

         2725538 Guardsman KENNETH BUTLER

(dob 11.12.26)

I was in the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, joined up on the 18th January 1945 and was demobbed
January 1948.

I trained at Caterham, then Lingfield, before going to Hoffnungstal, Germany, in the summer of 1945.  3rd Battalion not needed any more so they were split up between the 1st and the 2nd Battalions.  Before leaving Hoffnungstal in 1946 I was proud to receive the Ever Open Eye insignia.  Returned to London in 1946 to carry out public duties at the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace
for one year.

I trained under Regimental Sergeant Major ‘Ginger’ Howe at Chelsea and Commanding Officer Crowther before going to Palestine.

In January 1947 sailed for Palestine to try and do our bit to separate the Jews from the Palestinians (as you know we never succeeded!).  In January 1948 set sail from Port Said,
to be demobbed at Aldershot.

I would like to contact my old mates Freddie Moseley (think that’s how you spell it) 27254??  and Len Brown 27253?? or 27254??  Freddie was from London Broadway, Southwark and Len came from Ramsgate.  Both Freddie and I attended Len’s wedding (1946) in Ramsgate.

Below are some pictures from my album, which maybe of interest:
