I am saddened to report the death of 2721772 Joe Brown.  Joe served wit the 3rd battalion during WW2 and was onetime driver for Brigadier Joe Vandeluer.  One story Joe told of Brigadier Joe was that during a lull in battle the Brigadier (Colonel at the time) decided he would like to see the place were the famous “Battle of Waterloo” was fought. The escapade nearly ended in disaster when they were almost captured by the Germans but managed to escape under a hail of machinegun fire with a redfaced Brigadier in the passenger seat.

Joe never forgot his time serving in the Irish Guards, his pride and love of the Regiment never flickered in a life span of 85 years.  In later years Joe was a active member of the North of England Branch, serving on the branch committee and along with Bill Bradley (rip) Geoff Hare and Denis Dillon looking after the Manchester end of branch affairs.  He also became a member of the Irish Guards Singers, performing with us at the Manchester Military Tattoo and on the tour of County Mayo in 2004, and loved every minute of it.

Joe was a typical Mick chancer, full of fun, backchat and leg pulling. But despite his aptitude for fun Joe could just as easily shed a few tears when it concerned lost friends and comrades.  He will be sadly missed by many people.. God rest in peace dear friend and comrade

Our condolences to Peg, Joe’s wife and the family
