A Good Ole Mick

What is it that makes an Irish Guard?

This is a fella that could start a fight in an empty back yard.

He does not realise just what he possesses as it comes from within.

It’s a heart the shape of a shamrock he has inside of him.

He is someone that can adapt and quickly overcome.

He is someone you want along side you with his trusty gun.

He will lay his life down upon on the ground.

No finer fighting soldier could be found.

He can smile in the face of adversity.

We have had many that have even attended university.

We have been blessed with so many great leaders of men.

You could scour the earth and you would not find as good as them.

We have examples right through history to present day.

Of the calibre of soldier that it takes to lead the way.

We have our share of medals and not just for war.

The Infantry Cup the Lawson Cup and many more.

We have evolved with time into a new fighting machine.

But we learnt our craft via the likes of Vandeleur and McClean.

What we all possess is a sense of pride.

To be a part of this family that is so diverse and wide.

We have stories from the past and stories new.

Just go to Ivor’s site you can read a few.

But that’s the beauty of the Good ole Mick.

He is a canny man and doesn’t miss a trick.

I served my time with some outstanding men.

Here are the names of just a few of them.

Cleary, Jimmy the Hump and the Onion too.

The Head, Fitzy, Bert Smith and Pat Hubbard but to mention a few.

We have lost so many that now lay in the shade,

But we will all come together for a Grand final parade.

It’s not because I’m a fan of St. Patrick.

It’s because yes you guessed it,  I’m a Good ole Mick.
